“The Ground Beneath Their Feet,” is a documentary film that I shot in Pakistan and Kashmir between Oct. 2005 and July 2006.

It tells the story of Ruqiya and Khalida, two young Pakistani women who were paralyzed in the devastating earthquake that struck the north of Pakistan in 2005. Their disability left them struggling to create a new identity for themselves once their cultural value as wives and homemakers was lost.

“The Ground Beneath Their Feet”  shows the five-year evolution of their attitudes, bodies, and futures. The film provides a truthful story of the strength of women in the Muslim world.

In this blog I recount the process of making the film, stories about the people I met, and the adventures that ensued during my time in Pakistan. The film is currently in post-production, to learn more about it please visit: www.thegroundbeneaththeirfeet.com.
